RETIRED PUBLIC EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION
CHAPTER 25 ** GENERAL MEETING ** April 28, 2009
The meeting was called to order at 10:30 a.m. by President
James Spaulding at the El Dorado Park Senior Citizens
Center, 2800 Studebaker Rd., Long Beach, California. The
Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was led by the President.
The minutes of the Jan. 27, 2009 meeting were approved as
printed in the newsletter.
Guest Speakers:
Dennis Head, President of Local Lodge 1930 Machinist
union, City of Long Beach gave brief presentation on the
City of Long Beach furlough of City Employees.
Dr. Teri Yamada, PhD. Professor of Comparative Studies at
Cal State University Long Beach (CSULB) presented
information regarding severe funding issues impacting
10,000 qualified students not able to enroll.
Teri Eggers Community Service Supervisor introduced Dr.
Elijah Levy, PhD Cerritos College.
Janet M. Schabow Business Representative with the
Machinists. Union gave a glowing update on the progress
of unions.
Bill Donoghue, Area DirectorVIII, introduced the staff from
the Nippon Hoso Kyodai, Japanese Broadcasting
Corporation, who is doing documentation for CalPERS. We
are proud to say that Chapter 25 was chosen to do the
filming for the document. When finished we will receive a
copy of the document.
The main speakers from the National Committee to
Preserve Social Security and Medicare were, form
Washington D. C., Katie M. Johnson, also Eugene Williams,
and Joe Noel.
There ere 96 in attendance, 82 were members.
Treasury Report: $4,367.00 up from $3,531.00.
The 50/50 and $2.00 bill raffles were held.
Meeting Adjourned.

our meetings. Food is prepared for us, based on the
number of ADVANCE RESERVATIONS we have received.
